Research Field, Activities and Interests
Before joining Kyoto University,I served as a Professor at Aoyama Gakuin University from 2012 to 2023, a Senior Scientist at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines from 2006 to 2012, an Assistant Professor at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) from 2000 to 2011, and as a Consultant at the World Bank from 1999 to 2000.. I was the immediate past president of the Asian Society of Agricultural Economists (ASAE). I have conducted extensive household and community surveys across Asia and Africa. My research interests include the long-term evaluation of the Green Revolution in Asia and its applicability to Sub-Saharan Africa, irrigation management and sustainable agricultural development, and human capital development in rural economies
